I read the poem before I noticed the historic footnote, thought the poem was about an angel who's a presence strengthens the author in the midst of some turmoil. Then I read the footnote and thought, 'guess it kinda is.' This is a lovely poem.
Yes I guess it is, in a way. I remember the place vividly, it was quite haunting and being young at the time, it was comforting to have my sister there, as she always is. Thanks so much!
